POKER ON TELEVISION
Introduction:
The television shows for the game of poker has witnessed large amount of success, thanks to the popularity of the game of poker by numerous audiences and viewers in the United States. The television programs for poker have yielded phenomenal television ratings in Europe and North America. This is mostly the case of the pocket cam invention in the year 1997. It was not until the year 2002, when it was first used. The game allowed the viewers to view the hole cards of each poker player.
Origin of the Televised Poker Games:
The game of poker began to be aired on television channels, since the start of the 1970s. ESPN began the broadcasting of the World Series of Poker events in television. At that time, the main event was of one hour duration. Most of the time, the coverage was less robust. This was the fact that, the viewers did not have the details of the cards which the players possessed. The television coverage at that time essentially comprised of the guessing of the commentators, with regards to the cards which they had with them. The methodology of the broadcast of the game changed in the year 1997. This happened when the hole cam was introduced in the continent of Europe. This was subsequently followed by its introduction in the United States. However, it took a full five years for the hole-cam technology to be passed from Europe to the United States. The first usage of the camera in the United States was in the 2002 WSOP event. |
